Giving

Growing in Generosity

growth

All that we have and all that we are
comes from God.
With gratitude, we share our resources in community,
in ministry and mission.
May our gifts be blessings as we have been blessed.

Inspiring Generosity
“I look around and I see familiar faces, I hear familiar songs, I repeat familiar words – I wonder why I come to Church – Do I come to be comfortable with friends who share my visions? Do I come out of obligation that was driven into me when I was young? Do I come to feel challenged by what God is REALLY calling me to do? We are called here to worship God! To pray to him! To thank him! To praise him!

In Colossians 3:16 it says “ Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” I really try to do that while I am here. I try to praise, to thank, to acknowledge that I am grateful for my time on this earth and I look forward to serving others.

In Matthew 18:20 it says, “For where two or three have gathered together in my name, I am there in their midst.” God is here with us! God is amongst us! God is within us! What a gift! Each one of us is a gift from God! Each one of us is a gift from God! And this church is a vessel to share that gift!
1 Corinthians 12:26-27 says, “If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one
part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ,
and each one of you is a part of it.” With this in mind, We can’t rejoice together if we don’t know someone’s joys! We can’t suffer together if we don’t realize someone is suffering. So I would like to encourage you to share your gifts, your joys, your sorrows, your accomplishments, your stories, your journey! Your struggles are a gift as well – we can learn from each other, encourage each other – so don’t just share your joys!
When we lived in Colorado, our kids attended a daycare center run by a church. They learned that we weren’t able to go home for Christmas and although Todd’s family was in town, I was really missing my family. We didn’t have a lot of money but had enough – we had food, a warm house and plenty of things. One night we came home to find a box of food for a Christmas meal.
We could have purchased the same food – we were far from starving – there were plenty of needy people in the community – but the gesture of the Church reaching out to us when I was feeling very homesick – made me feel like I was home, among friends. I never attended this church (besides daycare) but I felt welcome there. They showed me what giving is.
Giving is taking the time to find what a person wants or needs. If you go out to purchase a birthday present, you find the “perfect gift”, you search for the correct size box and wrap it beautifully with a big bow – and you present it to them. You give the gift to show thankfulness that that person is in your life. You look forward to seeing the joy on their faces. What it would be like if we treated each other like gifts? Gifts from God!
This gift of life is determined by what you put into it. The more you give, the more you feel in return. For every hour I spend putting up bulletin boards, or organizing events I get the joy of possibly meeting new people, sharing more stories, enjoying each others’ company. Each time we gather for a float down the river, or bible study or a hot topics happy hour or staying after service to chat we get to witness God’s gifts. Give of your time, your talent, your treasures.
Come to Church to share of yourself. Stay after Church and give service to others.
